Abstract
The 10th Japan Academy of Aligner Orthodontics Annual Congress 2023
- Mid-facial Skeletal Expansion combined with posterior dental intrusion for transverse, vertical and sagital skeletal correction. Guided by Smile Digital Design
- LEARNING OBJETIVES
- Learn how Micro-implants, digital MSE and intrusion of posterior dentition should be implemented in order to obtain optimal results.
- Difference between surgical and virtual jump for transverse, vertical and sagital simulation of skeletal movements.
- Learn of how to implement the simultaneous protocol when using Digital MSE and aligners
ABSTRACT
The opportunities for digital workflows in orthodontic practice are growing more and more. The need to adapt ourselves and our clinics to digital technology seems almost mandatory. Digitization consists in enabling, improving, or evolving a procedure using digital technologies. This conference will explain how to combined Digital Maxillary Skeletal Expander (Digital MSE) and aligners simultaneously in an Anterior Open Bite case with poster gummy smile and airway problems.
Digital MSE was used to correct the transverse skeletal problem, thus having an impact on the airways. Also it is explained how, when and where the intrusion of the posterior sectors should be
made to allow the vertical skeletal change and consequently the mandible projection.
By using Digital Smile Design to guide orthopedic and orthodontic treatment from the beginning achieving maximum predictability from the beginning of treatment.
The 9th Japan Academy of Aligner Orthodontics Annual Congress 2022
- “Advanced Protocols using Digital Maxillary Skeletal Expander (DMSE) combined with aligners. Be successful and predictable.
- LEARNING OBJETIVES
- Learn how Micro-implants, digital MSE and Mini-plates should be implemented in our daily
clinical practice
- Complete overview in the use of Digital MSE and aligners
- Learn different protocols when using Digital MSE and aligners: simultaneous vs combined protocol
ABSTRACT
The opportunities for digital workflows in orthodontic practice are growing more and more. The need
to adapt ourselves and our clinics to digital technology seems almost mandatory.
Digitization consists in enabling, improving, or evolving a procedure using digital technologies. This
conference will explain through different carefully designed protocols, how digital dentistry is a
reality and how Micro-implants, MSE and Mini-plates should be implemented in our daily clinical
practice. Clinical cases combining Digital MSE and aligners will be presented and it will be
demonstrated step by step how to perform each of these protocols.

Dr. Mompell completed his dental studies at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC), completing his last year of training at the University of Coimbra in Portugal (UC).
After these studies, he moved to Sao Paulo in Brazil, where he discovered his passion for orthodontics by completing various training courses at the University of Sao Paulo (USP).
Later, he returned to Madrid, Spain where he completed the full orthodontic specialty as a resident at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation University Hospital (FJD) in Madrid.
During this period he also completed a master’s degree in clinical research at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) in Madrid.
At the end of 2015 he decided to move to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in the United States, to obtain his international doctorate.
He remained there for two years and currently works as an orthodontist exclusively in his private practice in Madrid and is an active member of the research team in the Division of Craniofacial Growth and Development.
Department of Orthodontics, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), California.
His scientific interest is focused on the expansion of the facial middle third in adults without the need for surgery, through the use of mini-implants.
He is studying the effects after expansion on the airway, as well as the facial aesthetic repercussion due to transverse skeletal problems.
He has developed several digital protocol used as a references for many colleagues.
He is now presenting his work in many international conference and become invited professor advisory Professor at Ajou University, Seoul, Korea and invited professor at European University of Valencia, Murcia University, Alcala de Henares University, Spain.
Part of his work has been already published in journals like Progress in Orthodontics and American Journal of Orthodontics a Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJODO)
